How to Mow the Lawn - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 4 Words: 1340 Downloads: 5 Date added: 2017/09/14 Category Advertising Essay Did you like this example? Daniel Harding Tina Hultgren English 103 September 2, 2010 Manual for Yard Domination Have you ever woken up on a beautiful Sunday morning only to find that your yard has grown completely out of control? Well donââ¬â¢t fret, this paper will guide you through the steps required to have your lawn look like youââ¬â¢ve been mowing your whole life. Having the skills to conquer any yard will make you a star in the field of landscaping worldwide. By mastering the strategies contained within these lines you, too, can be the Master of the Yard. The key sections of a good mow job are, preparing the equipment, the cutting of the grass, and inspection and clean-up. Letââ¬â¢s take a look at how to first prepare your mower for the task at hand. The first thing you will want to do is to buy a mower. You can find a good lawn mower at any home and garden center or outdoor superstore. Now when it comes to what kind of mower to have for the job, if your lawn is of large size with a lot of open grass areas it would be wise to get a riding lawnmower that will save time and effort in the mowing. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "How to Mow the Lawn" essay for you Create order However, most lawns tend to be of manageable size and could have obstacles in the path of mowing, for this a normal walk-behind mower will do just fine, since it is much more maneuverable than a large riding lawnmower. Walk behinds will be the central focus of discussion because they are much more common. After you have the right mower for your specific lawn the next step is to ready it for mowing. You will want to check the fluids in the mower especially if you did actually just buy it, otherwise you will want to check the oil level and cleanliness every 3 months, changing it or topping it off when necessary. Most mowers have a short dipstick located on top of the engine in a corner. It is necessary to check the level of gasoline in the fuel tank every time you mow. Depending on your specific model of mower, you may be required to combine the oil and the gasoline together in a certain ratio before putting them into the tank. However, this is rare for lawnmowers and probably wonââ¬â¢t be the case with yours. It is good the keep a gas can of at least 2 gallons with a sealed cap near the mower for when it needs to be refilled. You should also make a habit of refueling the lawnmower every time you use it. When filling a small fuel tank such as a lawnmower, it can be very easy to overfill and spill flammable gasoline all over the mower. To avoid this it is wise to listen to the sound of the gasoline pouring into the tank, as the pitch of the sound increases, it means there is becoming less air in the tank for the sound the reverberate off of, and therefore, means there is more and more gasoline in the tank. When the sound begins to increase exponentially, it means the tank is very close to full. At this point you should either stop filling the tank or dramatically reduce the rate you are pouring to avoid overfilling. Once the mower is gassed up and the oil is topped off, you are ready to do your pre-check of the yard. Simply walk throughout the area you are going to mow, checking for objects such as rocks, branches, large roots sticking out of the ground, items lying around the yard, or any other objects that will be a danger to run over by the mower. Once the yard is clear you ready to start your mowing. The most important part of the job is the mowing itself. But before you get down to business, most mowers will require that the engine be primed. Priming in pushing in on a little dome shaped button with a hole in the middle know as a primer. It should be pushed three to five times in order to be effective. When a mower sits without running for even a small amount of time, gasoline naturally empties out of the fuel lines due to gravity, this can make it quite difficult to start the mower. What priming does is it forces gasoline into the fuel lines, requiring much less effort to get the mower running. Now it is time to start the mower, position yourself behind the mower with your left foot forward and your right foot behind you for optimum balance. To start the mower, you will first need to hold down the fuel cut-off bar in order for the engine to run. When pulling the cord, it is good to provide a strong full stroke in order to have to best chance of the mower starting. What pulling the cord does is it starts the crankshaft of the motor into motion and from there the normal cycles of the engine take over to keep the mower running. Most mowers are equip with a drive system that reduces the effort required to maneuver the mower around the yard. This will come in either an always-on form, meaning if the mower is running the wheels are spinning, otherwise, it will require you to also hold some kind of switch or pull-bar to activate the drive system. Now its time to get down to business. When mowing the lawn, it is good to have some kind of pre-thought-out pattern in order to avoid running over the same areas twice. This pattern may be either diagonally across the yard, horizontally, vertically, or even is a spiral toward the center. A custom pattern may be necessary depending on the size or unique shape of your lawn. No matter what you pattern of choice, it is good to alternate the pattern you use every month or so. This will avoid marks to your yard caused by the mower running over the exact same areas every time you mow. Using a pattern that utilizes many straight-aways and few turns will make you your mowing more efficient by conserving time and gas. If your mower has a guard on the side instead of an attached bag for clippings, you will need to be aware of where you clippings are ending up. Especially with spiral patterns, there is a risk of running over the area where your last passââ¬â¢s clippings were disposed and moving them to your next passââ¬â¢s path. This will cause a buildup in the amount of grass the mower is taking on during each pass. Smart planning in the design of your pattern can make this a non-issue. Another problem that may arise is too wet of grass. This will occur if you are mowing after it has recently rained or if condensation has left dew on the grass. Wet grass will stick to the inside of the blade guard, this will create a buildup causing the mower to be overworked and reducing the overall cutting ability. Therefore, it is wise to mow during a time when the grass is dry. Once you have completed your yard, you will want to quickly inspect it for areas you may have missed, taking care of them if you find any. Then store your mower in some covered area such as a garage, shed, or even just under a tarp. This will keep it out of the rain and dry, because an engine that is wet will rust and develop all kinds of problems. Most people think that mowing is a simple, menial task that doesnââ¬â¢t require any thought. But as you see, having the know-how to mow your lawn correctly and efficiently can make your mowing experience breezy and easy. By buying the right mower, keeping the fluids in check, choosing an efficient pattern, and taking good care of your lawn mower, you can assure that your lawn will be the best looking on the block.

The Treaty Of Versailles During World War I - 2668 Words
There is no question that the German people showed a high level of discontent with the Allies after World War 1, especially since the unveiling of the terms from the Treaty of Versailles. Possibly the most humiliating clause implemented in the Treaty of Versailles was Article 231, also known as ââ¬ËWar Guilt.ââ¬â¢ This was a term, which forced Germany to accept all responsibility for initiating the First World War along with paying a detrimental bill of à £6.6 billion for war reparations , strongly demanded by French Prime Minister, Georges Clemenceau, even though it was apparent that Germany would not be able to keep up with this payment. So clearly from the aftermath of the First World War, Germany became a bitter nation filled with hatred towards the Allies. However, there had to be an outlet for all this anger, which some historians argue was redirected towards the Weimar Republic. In result, this was a source of promulgation for the Nazi Party as the Germans were devia ted towards extreme radical parties. The National Socialist Workers Party, also popularly known as The Nazi Party, was founded after the collapse of the First World War. It was first regarded as the Germans Workersââ¬â¢ Party until the infamous Adolf Hitler assumed leadership of the organization. The primary purpose for this party was a cry for German nationalism and anti-Semitism. Small Company Y2k Report Essays - Calendars, Software Bugs, COBOL
Small Company Y2k Report Table of Contents 1. Introduction 2. Testing Procedure 3. Hardware and Software Compliance 4. Summary 1. Introduction Year 2000, Y2K or Millennium Bug! What is it? It is a problem resulting from the common programming practice of using only two-digits to store the year in software. The practice dates back to the 1950's when computers began to be used for business purposes. Using two digits for dates is benign and causes no harm so long as the next year is a larger number than the current year. For example software applications that use dates have no problem with the sequence of 95,96,97,98 and 99. However, when the century ends, the year 2000 will be stored as 00. Calculations or decisions, based on dates or time periods, can go seriously wrong. How is it fixed? Inregard to personal and small business computers, the problem is three fold. Firstly, the computer hardware must report the current date correctly. Many computers, especially early Pentiums, 486, 386 and 286 based machines, will on the 1st January 2000 Revert back to 1 April 1980 or some other date. Thus creating a potential problem until the correct date is re-entered - provided of course that the computer can be set manually to a date beyond 311299. Calculation of Leap Year dates may also be incorrect on some computers. Secondly, the computer software must carry out the correct calculations based on a four-digit year (e.g. 1999 or 2000 etc) rather than just using the last two digits. The supplier or manufacturer of the software should be approached to ascertain the compliance of their code, or their schedule to have it corrected and distributed. Thirdly, your data must be in the correct format - namely year described as a four-digit number. If your dates have been entered as described above (that is 15th Feb 1955 entered as 150255), then you have a data conversion to be carried out. Testing Procedure To determine if Windows NT 4.0 ,Win95 and would roll to the appropriate date, the control panel applet DATE&TIME(d&t) was used to change the dates. The machines d&t were set to the day before each date outlined in the memo. The machine date was changed to a control time of 11:59:45 PM in each case. The machine date was then allowed to roll to the date in question. The machine d&t was then reset to the previous date and control time. This time the machine was rebooted while the time was rolling to the date in question. In each case, after the time rolled, the date was checked to find the correct date. WinNT and Win95 Explorer was then opened and a file in the 'c:\winnt' and 'c:\windows' directory was changed to check whether or not a saved file corresponded with the correct date. The data from these tests is defined in the following table. 'Data & Time Tested' column are the Control values found in the memo. Both 'Post Test Date' columns are the dates found in each instance after the date rolled from the 'Date&Time Tested' column to the date in question. The 'Post Explorer check' was tested to see if the machine reported the right time. 'Post modification dates' are file dates after the file was saved to check the corresponding date. In each test, no problems with the d&t were encountered. Results: The testing actually caused several different things to happen to the OS. Whenever I rolled the date forward, The following directories changed the date associated with them: Windows NT Test C:\Winnt, C:\Winnt\System32, C:\Winnt\Fonts, C:\Temp. Windows 95 Test C:\Windows, C:\Windows\System, C:\Windows\Fonts, C:\Temp This seemed strange because the machine time stamp wouldn't roll back when the time was changed backwards, but this isn't part of the test procedure. When the time actually changes the date will roll forward and stay. It won't roll backwards. I don't know if this affects the testing but it would be totally impossible to rebuild the machine each time the test was run. This would take many hours to do and it probably won't affect the data anyway. Before I started testing, I looked on the Internet to see what Microsoft said about WinNT 4.0, Win95 and the y2k problem. On this site, there are links to all Microsoft Products. For WinNT 4.0, there were 4

Bill Gates and Steve Jobs since 1980 essays
Bill Gates and Steve Jobs since 1980 essays In the early 80s the world so the initial boom of the computer era. The first personal computers were sold and the main players of the business were sorted out. Two of the prominent figures were Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Each pioneering their own front, the two entered the 90s as the computer world celebrities. By the mid 90s each of these tycoons' life had taken many turns and twists, albeit for the better usually. Bill Gates' 1995 was a bit hectic, this was the year of the huge unveiling of windows 95. After many delayed attempts to get it out Gates released windows 95 in August without Microsoft Plus, as had been earlier said, this was due to time restrictions as changing windows 95 to 96 would be a waste of money and probably more seriously the worst move commercially any company would ever make. With the release of Windows 95 the world saw the largest over media onslaught to sell a product. Also with the release of Windows came Microsoft's foray into the Internet market share. In hindsight this perhaps may not have been the best move to make. 1996 passed with much criticism of Gates' operating system, people said it was unstable, hard to figure out and anything else possible. 1997 came around with rumours of a new operating system in the works dubbed Chicago. This was perhaps a rumour but more likely the beginning of Windows 98. In 1998 Gates released this newer version of Window s 95, which made the world Gates' subject for the biggest beta test ever. Windows 98 was just an upgrade of 95. Upgrade may be an understatement, but on the surface it is almost identical, underneath they are worlds apart. Recently Microsoft's ghosts have come to haunt them. Netscape, their main rival in the Internet division, had started an Anti-trust case in the federal supreme court. The accusations spawned from a dispute where Netscape's browser were being loaded onto pre made Compaq computers and Microsoft did not approve of thi...

How To Grow Instant Sheet Crystals
How To Grow Instant Sheet Crystals You can grow crystals in seconds. It doesnt take special solutions or complicated equipment. You have all the ingredients in your kitchen. Lets do it! Difficulty: Easy Time Required: Crystals form in seconds What You Need Cookie sheet or glass panHot waterCrystal chemical (e.g., alum or Epsom salt)Food coloring (optional) Heres How Make a crystal growing solution. You can use any recipe. Great choices would be Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate, sold with laundry or bath products) or alum (from the spice section of the grocery store) stirred into very hot water until no more will dissolve. Add a little food coloring.Pour a little solution onto a cookie sheet or glass pan. Its okay if the liquid is still hot.Tilt the pan around to spread out the solution. Youll see a fan of crystals form as the liquid evaporates, similar to frost on a windowpane. Tips You dont need very much solution at all! If you have a puddle of liquid in your pan, that is too much. Pour some off and let the bottom dry. The evaporation goes more quickly if the pan is warm, but its not really necessary to heat it (in other words, avoid burns).Try viewing the crystals through a microscope. Polarized light displays gorgeous colors!Another option is to crystallize the solution onto a sheet or plate of clear glass or plastic. Once the crystals have dried, hold the plate up to light. Examine the crystals using a magnifying glass. What do you see if you wear polarized sunglasses?
